After the the biggest recording breaking lottery jackpot of $1.5 billion, we're happy to say that 3 lucky people have won this massive jackpot.
So many went to play the lotto but only three won this hefty prize: a winning ticket in California, Tennessee and Florida (some of the warmest states in America) has been verified by the US Powerball lottery operator, but no further details are currently known.
The only information we are certain of is that one of the winning lottery ticketss was sold in California at a 7-Eleven located in Chino Hills.
The announcement came from Twitter: "We have a winner in California! A jackpot-winning ticket was sold in Chino Hills. We're still awaiting results from other states." This was in fact, the first time a ticket sold in California matched all five numbers plus the Powerball since the US Powerball started at its initial starting jackpot of $40 million, before it rocketed into the billions.
These are the winning ticket numbers: 4, 8, 19. 27, 34 and the Powerball was 10. In total, 12 tickets that matched five numbers were also picked in California, making this one incredibly lucky state. Those lottery tickets all receive approximately $1 million in winnings.
After the winning ticket was announced, media swooped on the Chino Hills 7-Eleven while crowds gathered outside to celebrate. It was officially the largest lottery jackpot in history and with odds of 292.2 million to 1, it would have taken astronomical luck for anyone, let alone three lottery players, to have won. Sales on Wednesday alone for the US Powerball were well over $600 million as millions rushed to be part of the action. We may even see another billion dollar US Powerball lottery later this year, owing to the change to the numbering system the lottery operator enacted in late 2015.
